"The care you all give means I can continue my life safe in the knowledge that Mum is cared for."

Such a special place to live

Thank you for the hard work you put in to making The Glen such a special place to live in. You are such a caring and wonderful group of people. It has been a privilege for mum to spend her last few years with you. Your care has been exceptional.

A very special place

My very elderly Mother has been a resident at The Glen for the last 4 years.

I have nothing but praise for the care she has received from all the staff always delivered with kindness and a smile – nothing is too much trouble and importantly, information and reassurance for relatives always available.

I would have no hesitation in recommending The Glen.

It is a very special place.

Great confidence in safety and well-being

I knew as soon as I walked into The Glen that I had found the best placement possible for my sister. Knowing that she is living at The Glen brings me great peace of mind. My sister is very happy there and visits to her are a great pleasure. I live a hundred miles away and I now have great confidence in her safety and well-being.

Really well looked after

Mum has been a resident at The Glen for four years and is very happy and comfortable. She has high needs and they are met by a friendly, caring team. I consider the staff at The Glen as friends and know that when I am not with mum she is really well looked after. This has enabled me to carry on with my life and not worry about mum because she is in good hands.

Highly recommended

My mother came to The Glen when it became apparent that she could no longer live alone at home. The Glen had already come highly recommended to us by a number of friends and acquaintances, and we were so pleased when a room became available for mum. Right from the start she was made to feel so welcome, and all her needs were attended to efficiently and with kindness. All the staff were very caring, always had time for mum and I always felt that her individual requirements were at the forefront. Mum really benefited from being able to join in with the wide range of activities laid on each week, and she always enjoyed having a manicure and getting her hair done. I am so glad that she was able to spend the final two years of her life in such a homely and relaxed place, surrounded by lovely caring staff and volunteers. Everyone was always very supportive of me too, for which I was especially grateful – I knew that there was always somebody there whom I could talk to.

This house is a home for those of us who live here

It is my pleasure to write and thank everyone for the care and attention you have provided during the last year. It has been first class as everyone takes their job seriously and attends to every little detail.

Providing three meals a day, with people wanting different choices, is hard work and the cooks and kitchen staff do an exemplary job. Thank you to all the carers for doing an exceptional job every day of the year. My thanks to Matron and all the nurses, day and night, who are on hand to cope with any emergency.

To the cleaners and maintenance staff, who keep the house clean and smelling so nice. It is wonderful to have any property issues tackled promptly. Thank you all for first class duties.

I am very impressed by the way all the directors chip-in together to make this house a home for those of us who live here as our “residence”. Arranging the menus and shopping, attending to the gardening, entertaining us with stories and singalongs.
The entertainments with games, quizzes, arts, crafts, baking keeps us all busy, looking after our mental and physical welfare is greatly appreciated.

Many thanks to you all.

The level of care provided is exceptional

My mother came to live at The Glen 4 years ago on a trial basis. It only took her a couple of days to agree that this was where she wanted to live. Owned and managed by Matron Kathryn and her close family, Mum soon came to feel that she was part of The Glen family. Mum quickly made friends with other residents and enjoyed the social life provided. The level of care provided is exceptional with nothing being too much trouble. All staff members ensured that her particular needs were provided for, whether it be baking her favourite caraway seed cake or buying her crumbly Lancashire cheese, taking part in the regular Songs of Praise sessions, attending to her many plants and flowers and helping her weed her garden trough.

As a family, we also experienced the hospitality of The Glen, many of us travelling long distances to visit, we were often able to have meals with Mum and the grandchildren made welcome.

As Mum’s health started to fail we witnessed the care provided by the nursing and care team, on hand 24 hours a day. The family were grateful to be able to stay over and be with Mum as the end drew close and were touched as all the staff came to say their goodbyes. I was by Mum’s side as she peacefully died. As my sister said, given that Mum was not able to live with any of her children, The Glen was definitely the best place for her to be in her final years.

Always Delivered With a Smile

My Mother aged almost 100 came to the Glen over a year ago. She had been a fiercely independent lady who had resisted any form of help which as a family we knew was essential and we managed to persuade her to give it a try. After a few tentative weeks she settled and this was entirely due to the wonderful help from all the staff.

She has always said everyone is so kind which I would totally endorse. Nothing is too much trouble and always delivered with a smile. We are so pleased that we chose the Glen for Mother – we know how well she is cared for.

The Best Possible Care Available

Our Mum has been at The Glen for nearly 3 years now. We could not be happier with the care and support she is given. The Glen is a close-knit community where all the staff are kind, patient and interested in my Mum. The care has been excellent both for Mum’s medical, physical and mental health. There are planned activities each day including baking, craft, films, quizzes, exercises, singing and games. Most importantly there is always someone there to talk to when you want.

As a family we feel so lucky to have found The Glen and secure in the thought that Mum is getting the best possible care available. When Mum first went into The Glen I thought it was the beginning of the end but I realise now it was the beginning of a new chapter in her life where she has made new friends, enjoyed social experiences and been able to relax in the knowledge that everything is being taken care of.

We cannot thank ALL The Glen team (cleaners, kitchen staff, carers, nurses and the management) enough – everyone makes it a very special place to be!

Home Away From Home

We spent a lot of time looking at care homes for my mother, quite an unsettling process! We fortunately met a local medical professional who said that if we were looking for a family run ‘home away from home’ with consistently good feedback we should look at The Glen. My mother has been very happy at The Glen and particularly appreciates the warmth and care that the staff show and the social life. The Glen team are very flexible and understanding and have done an amazing job of keeping spirits up and protecting both residents and staff during this very difficult COVID time and can’t be praised enough.

They Are Absolute Gems

My aunt, aged 102 and fiercely independent, was in need of care and some TLC after spending a month in hospital. She moved into The Glen and it was clear from the outset that we could be confident she was being wonderfully looked after. As her family all live in the South of England it was hugely reassuring for us to know this. First and foremost is the kindness and warmth of all the staff.

They are absolute gems, always taking time to have a chat, and offering tea, coffee and drinks constantly throughout the day. As The Glen is so small there is a feeling of homeliness which is lovely. Mealtimes are convivial, and my aunt downs a tumbler full of sherry every lunchtime! Her 103rd birthday was celebrated in style with balloons, a beautiful cake, and all of her family around.

It is an enormous responsibility to find a care home where you can be sure that someone you love will be cared for with dignity and affection, and I can only say that for us, The Glen has been the perfect choice.

Suzanne (Niece of Resident) March 2020

Knowledgeable, Kind, Attentive, Warm and Friendly

I cannot thank everyone enough for the marvellous care that Mum received, and she absolutely blossomed there! She loved the food, started to put much needed weight on, tried things she had never tried before and actually liked some of them! Her skin looked better than it had done in years, her hair was styled every Friday and she always looked smart. She enjoyed taking part in the activities and was very proud that some of her artwork was displayed on the walls. Mum was a very anxious person and because of the higher staff to resident ratio, was able to be given that extra reassurance and attention that made all the difference to her wellbeing.

The staff were very knowledgeable, kind, attentive, warm and friendly and any issues were immediately addressed and dealt with. Her needs were continually assessed and discussed. Equipment was purchased and routines implemented to make her as comfortable as possible, whilst enabling her to continue to take part in activities. She was very happy.

Grateful For Their Help and Support

The Director and her team have transformed The Glen since taking it over – my grandmother was there previously. My father was very happy for the year or so he spent at The Glen and he was very much cared for as his condition worsened and he was increasingly immobile. She never hesitated to make suggestions that would possibly improve his comfort and care and would be straightforward in discussing ideas that would not work, she was invariably correct.

The team at The Glen were always respectful to my father but moreover, he was very fond of them and they were never less than warm and caring. I live outside the UK and the team would keep me updated and pass my messages to my father when I was unable to reach him. My father was very glad that he had decided to have been there. I am very grateful for their help and support.

The Care is Excellent

The Glen is a home away from home for my mother in law. She became a resident after a long hospital stay which had left her having lost a lot of weight, at risk of pressure sores, with limited mobility and distressed. A year on, she is a different woman. Thanks to the staff’s patience – and eating the homemade, appetising food she has regained some weight (not easy in your 80s) and her skin is good. She is happy and settled. To have her tell us “How kind everyone is”, and that “It’s like being with family” is more than we could have ever hoped for. The care is excellent at all levels and the residents always treated with respect. Choosing a care home for a loved one is a huge responsibility, if you find yourself in this position, I would thoroughly recommend you take a look at The Glen. I’m very glad I did.

Home is Small and Friendly

My father has been through a very difficult time over the last 6 months since having to leave his own home requiring a lot of attention and I cannot thank all of the staff enough for all their care welcoming him into the home since March 2018. He was previously in a larger care home and was unhappy unable to settle down. The fact that the home is small and friendly has helped Dad become more stable and confident through forging relationships with fewer carers which has enabled him to trust them together with the on hand nursing staff. As soon as you walk through the front door there is a hotel feel and this is how he has been treated with the level of service and care he has received. It gives me great reassurance to know that he is in very capable hands.

Richard (Son of resident) 2019

Caring, Compassionate, Friendly and Homely Environment

I just wanted to pass on a compliment that I received with regard to the care that Dad is receiving at The Glen. Dad’s Community Heart Failure Nurse phoned me to inform me that she was, for now, discharging Dad, as his condition has stabilised.

The nurse that phoned me first visited Dad in his previous Nursing Home towards the end of July, about a week after he was admitted there for respite care. She told me that she didn’t recognise Dad as the same person she had originally visited because he looked so much better and healthier. Dad told her that he has been much happier since he has been living at The Glen, that the staff were lovely, the environment was much better for him and that, in particular, he very much enjoyed the food. She praised the care and attention Dad was receiving, from both the nursing and care staff at The Glen and commented on the fact that Dad looked so much healthier, particularly due to his weight gain. She said that Dad was displaying a much more positive attitude in general but in particular to his eating and fluid intake.

On a personal note, as a family, we have also noticed this change in Dad. He is much more settled and seems much happier. Dad looks generally healthier and his mobility has also improved – mainly due to the fact that he can more easily move around the building, with just the aid of his walking frame. All the staff we have encountered treat Dad (and the other residents) with dignity and respect. It is a great comfort to us to know that Dad is safe and well looked after in such a caring, compassionate, friendly and homely environment.

Sincere and Dependable

It was with great regret and trepidation that I faced the realisation that my mother of 86 needed 24 hour residential nursing care. My concerns grew greater with my visits to many of the residential homes in Sheffield until I came to The Glen.

The Glen is a home that really is a home. The small number of residents and the regular and well established staff team creates a genuinely homely feel, all staff know all residents as individuals as well as their visiting family and friends. The approach is flexible and protects those aspects of each of the residents’ individual preferences, their particular likes and dislikes and their needs.

The retention of staff is exemplary and the warmth and affection shown to residents is sincere and dependable.

My mother has been a resident for two years and after her initial settling in has seemed to me to be happier than in the final year of living in her own home. I unreservedly recommend The Glen as a caring home for elderly loved ones in need of full time residential and nursing care.

Everyone is Well Looked After

I wanted to thank you again on behalf of all the family for all the love and care given to mum while she was in the Glen. I am so pleased that she was able to spend her final few months there, close to her home, church and many friends. All the staff work so hard to make sure everyone is well looked after.
